William (Bill) Lothian Davidson Cuthbert

November 11, 1944 - January 31, 2008

Director Rotary Club of Calgary South 2006 - 2008

Rotarian November 11 1999 - January 31, 2008

Bill passed away suddenly on January 31, 2008.  He was a Friend and Fellow Rotarian and currently a Director of our Club.

Bill was born in the historic city and ancient Capital of Scotland Dunfermline, Fife, emigrating to Vancouver with his family in 1954.  He studied "Maths" at the University of British Columbia, graduating in 1966 with his Bachelor of Science Degree.  His background in math and interest in business led Bill into the Actuarial field with London Life.  Bill and Patricia, married in 1965 moved from Vancouver to London, Ontario where Bill excelled in his profession as an actuary.  He completed his examinations and qualified for Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries and was even featured in London Life's recruiting ads in the late 60's.  Bill spent nearly 25 years in London with London Life before "retiring" in 1991 as Vice-President of Pensions to join the consulting firm of Watson Wyatt Worldwide Actuaries as their Managing Consultant in Calgary.  He moved to Prizm Consultants in 2004 specializing in advising clients on the design and funding of pension plans and executive retirement programs.

Bob Shumka and Bonar Irving introduced Bill to our Club on his birthday, November 11, 1999.  His Rotary Service was exemplary - quiet and efficient.  He brought his business talents to bear on his roles on  the St. Mary's Committee, the Stay-in-School Scholarship Committee, and most notably as Dream Home Chairman in 2004.  He served as Club Service Director on the 2007-2008 Board.  Bill loved to play golf and enjoyed hosting the Rotary Golfers at Willow Park for the past few years.  He also enjoyed travelling with wife Pat and relaxing at their cabin in Windermere.  He was recently made a member of the prestigious and exclusive Calgary Burns Club in recognition of his Scottish heritage and commitment to the highest personal ideals.

Bill leaves his beloved wife Patricia, sons Sean and Scott and daughter Laura and their families, to whom we extend our sincerest condolences.  He also leaves an empty spot in the hearts of every Rotarian who knew him as a man of the highest integrity and humility.

Rest in Peace Bill, your time with us was far too brief.
